Grace. We talk as though we understand the term. The bank gives us a grace period. The seedy politician falls from grace. We describe an actress as gracious, a dancer as graceful. We use the word for hospitals, baby girls, kings, and premeal prayers. We talk as though we know what grace means. But do we really understand it? Have we settled for a wimpy grace? Grace has a drenching about it. A wildness about it. A white-water, riptide turn-you-upside-downness about it. Grace comes after you. It rewires you. From insecure to God secure. Couldn’t you use more grace like this? What about your family, your city, your whole world? Have they been shaped by grace? Strengthened by grace? Saved by grace? New York Times bestselling author, Max Lucado, invites you to settle in and consider God’s best idea—grace. It’s more than we deserve, greater than we imagine. And it’s all we need.

When life gets hard the hard-working work harder. Is it any wonder we’re all so tired? We do our best to do better, do more, and do now. And just when we think we can’t do it anymore grace says, You can rest now. Jesus already did it all.
At one point or another, we’ve all stood on the guilty side of a pointed finger. But Jesus came to silence the accusers with a word: Grace. Grace leaves the accusers speechless and gives us permission to livelife with a clean conscience. A clean record. A clean heart.
God cannot overlook sin. Instead He found a way to punish the sin and preserve the sinner. Jesus stepped in and took the punishment of our sin, and God gave us credit for Jesus’ perfection. Grace is God’s Sweet Exchange.
Every hurt is followed by a choice. We can get bent out of shape, or we can let our response be shaped with grace. Bitterness clouds the vision. It makes us blind to grace. But grace isn’t blind. It sees the hurt full well and chooses to see God’s forgiveness even more.
Sometimes life’s journey feels like a funeral march. Mistakes clothe us in robes of mourning. Circumstances bury our dreams and desires. On those days, all we can do is cry out for mercy. But God gives us more than mercy… He gives us grace.
Confession. The word conjures up many images, not all of which are positive. Backroom
interrogations. Chinese water torture. Admitting dalliances to a priest who sits on the other side of a black curtain. But confession is so much more. Confession is coming clean with God. Not telling God what he doesn’t know. That’s Impossible. But a proclamation of our trust in God’s goodness. Confession is radical reliance on grace.
