A calendar with the date of November 9th circled and highlighted in red.

We are really ready for this presidential election to be over. We’re ready for an end to the rancor and tackiness. Voters on both sides feel frustrated, even embarrassed by it all. There is a visceral fear, an angst about the result. What if so and so wins? When we wake up to November 9, post-election, when the confetti is swept away and the election is finally over, what will we see?

I have a prediction. I know exactly what November 9 will bring. Another day of God’s perfect sovereignty. He will still be in charge. His throne will still be occupied. He will still manage the affairs of the world. Never before has His providence depended on a king, president, or ruler. And it won’t on November 9, 2016. “The LORD can control a king’s mind as he controls a river; he can direct it as he pleases” (Proverbs 21:1 NCV).

On one occasion the Lord turned the heart of the King of Assyria so that he aided them in the construction of the Temple. [1] On another occasion, he stirred the heart of Cyrus to release the Jews to return to Jerusalem. [2] Nebuchadnezzar was considered to be the mightiest king of his generation. But God humbled and put him in “detention” for seven years. [3] “The kingdom is the Lord’s, and He rules over the nations” (Psalms 22:28).

Understanding God’s sovereignty over the nations opens the door to peace. When we realize that God influences the hearts of all rulers, we can then choose to pray for them rather than fret about them. Rather than wring our hands we bend our knees, we select prayer over despair.

Jeremiah did this. He was the prophet to Israel during one of her darkest periods of rebellion. He was called “the weeping prophet” because he was one. He wept at the condition of the people and the depravity of their faith. He was so distraught that one of his books was entitled Lamentations. But then he considered the work of God. Note the intentionality of his words:

This I recall to my mind,

Therefore I have hope.

The LORD’s lovingkindnesses indeed never cease,

For His compassions never fail.

They are new every morning;

Great is Your faithfulness.

(Lam. 3:21-23)

Imitate Jeremiah. Lift up your eyes. Dare to believe that good things will happen. Dare to believe that God was speaking to us when he said: “In everything God works for the good of those who love him” (Romans 8:28).

Many years ago, I spent a week visiting the interior of Brazil with a long-time missionary pilot. He flew a circuit of remote towns in a small plane that threatened to come undone at the slightest gust of wind. Wilbur and Orville had a sturdier aircraft.

I could not get comfortable. I kept thinking that the plane was going to crash in some Brazilian jungle and I’d be gobbled up by piranhas or swallowed by an anaconda.

I kept shifting around, looking down, and gripping my seat. (As if that would help.) Finally, the pilot had had enough of my squirming. He looked at me and shouted over the airplane noise. “We won’t face anything I can’t handle. You might as well trust me to fly the plane.”

Is God saying the same to you? If so, make this your prayer:

Dear Lord,

You are perfect. You could not be better than you are.

You are ever-existing.* You exist because you choose to exist.

You are self-sustaining. No one helps you. No one gives you strength.

You are self-governing. Who can question your deeds? Who dares advise you?

You are correct. In every way. In every choice. You regret no decision.

You have never failed. Never! You cannot fail! You are God! You will accomplish

your plan.

You are happy. Eternally joyful. Endlessly content.

You are the king, supreme ruler, absolute monarch, overlord, and rajah of all history.

An arch of your eyebrow and a million angels will pivot and salute. Every throne is a footstool to yours. Every crown is papier–mâché to yours. No limitations, hesitations, questions, second thoughts, or backward glances. You consult no clock. You keep no calendar. You report to no one. You are in charge.

And I trust you.

Circle November 9 on your calendar and write upon it the words:  Our good God rules the world.

208 comments on “My Prediction for November 9

  1. Thank you! I took a deep breath as I read your calming words, and was reminded of God’s truth. God is in control and Jesus is coming back to get us. Thank you again, Pastor Max 🙂

  2. You do know how to articulate the truth. May God richly bless and keep you and your family.

  3. Thank you for bring calm in the midst of an approaching storm. You words have reminded me that I can find perfect peace and rest in the Almighty.

  4. Thank you so much for this wonderful reminder. We get so caught up in worry over these worldly events that we forget to always “look up”! I am so thankful that my hope is not of this world.

  5. Thank you Pastor Lucado. I know all you shared is true, because “I know Jesus” and His Word. I believe His truths, I believe He is in control. I believe He holds candidates’ hearts in His Hand and will use them according to His divine purpose. Amen.

  6. Thank you so very much for reminding us that God will be in charge on November 9 and every other day.

  7. I am reminded that Jeremiah prayed with an anguished heart for God’s people.
Yes, the weeping prophet. Am I crying out for (my) families, (my) churches, my nation as Jeremiah prayed. Yes, with anguish. “Lord, we are perishing, save us!”
Yet as I pray my heart is filled with absolute trust in our Sovereign God.

    1. Father, have mercy on Trump and Clinton. Bring them to their senses, help each to cry out to you, in anguish, for salvation. Grant Your revival and awakening to America Sovereign Lord.

  8. Last night I could not sleep for a couple of hours thinking about how sad this whole nation’s “noise” has consumed my life. I took some time to listen to the Lotd’s voice. Then I slept soundly! And your words further encouraged me as I heard more of God’s voice. Thank you for writing! I wish I could “share” it on FB…

  9. Thank you, Sir, for reminding us of God’s unchanging character, and of His proven good record in our world!

  10. I do appreciate these beautiful words about God’s sovereignty.
The other side of the coin is the undeniable truth, that humans are free vill agents who have the power to choose. Many times have happened in the history of mankind that bad choices led to tremendous suffering and interestingly enough, God did not interfere by putting a halt to the consequences.
    God is sovereign! I agree.
The question is: Will He stop us from making a horrible choice, or will He let us reap the crops of our ways? He is sovereign regardless. Is He?

    1. I agree. I loved the prayer, but at the same time I think many Christians fail to cry out to God because of the false idea that everything that happens is God’s will because, after all, He us in control, right? Let us not forget the admonition from 2 Chronicles, “IF my people, who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray, and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, THEN will I hear from heaven and heal their land.” Pray for discernment, pray that the people of God will not be deceived. Pray the light of God to shine so that the things hidden in shadows would be revealed and God’s best would come.

  11. Thank you Max Lucado for calming my heart and head. God has used you in a mighty way and this needs to be read by everyone. Thank you for putting the right things into perspective. Praying for our country…

  12. This is the exact same way I feel and I thank you, Max Lucado, for putting my thoughts into words in such a beautiful way. No matter what, God is in control!

  13. Thank you Pastor Lucado I will read this daily. I have been truly blessed by this beautiful devotional.

  14. Thank you.. I’m so glad we can rest in our Almighty Father’s arms, and do what he tells us so many times, “do no fear”

  15. I want to Thankyou for sharing this with me Max, because I am struggling with what is going on with this period and point of time with the Elections, WW3 talks, New World Order talks, etc and all this has me completely scared and I am VERY frightened about everything and I deal with some mental illnesses, fears, God knows everything I’m going through and have gone through the last 38 years of my life that I just feel like I’m not sure what to even do anymore….I am scared to death deep down and my spirit feels cold most times, like I’m dead and empty inside!! I want to apologize to anyone that may have felt I puked all over this comment section, I just want to Thankyou for this kind truth of words from the heavens above!! I also have asked the Lord Jesus to come into my life to become my Lord & my savior, and I deep down in my heart and soul I want a relationship with God 🙁

  16. Love & appreciate your God centered perspective. Thanks for sharing your wisdom once again Max.

  17. I wonder how I could have forgotten this. Thanks for the reminder. It actually calmed my frustration.

  18. I am also so very grateful for this timely reminder. God is still sovereign and can use anyone to accomplish His perfect plan! I am reminded that I indeed do not need to be fearful or worry. Our dear Lordcares for His children. I am the daughter of the King of kings. How cool is that to know my Savior lives in me, my very breath and strength! I love Him with every fiber of my being!❤️
    Thank you Pastor Max Lucado!

  19. Yes, but we are also called to stand in the gap and pray. My concern is that so many will just bury their heads in the sand out of frustration and God’s hand will not be able to move as He will not find His people praying.

  20. Thank you so much for this encouraging word. I am a Canadian living in the U.S. so I feel an even greater measure of helplessness regarding the election. I am not encouraged by either presidential candidate, but this reminder that our God reigns brings peace. Jesus Christ for King!!

  21. I am truly thankful for God’s word thru you. Praying for the out come of this election.
    God is in control.

  22. Thank you very much for the profound reminder that what we are hearing during this horrible campaign is nothing to our Lord. I sometimes seem to forget that HE is in control and that HIS will will be done as HE guides HIS people through these days of immortality, definance and disobedience of God’s Holy Word. You’ve reminded me that I can rest in Him with confidence as I continue to share the sweet and true Gospel to all who will listen.

  23. In your wisdom and teaching of God’s supremacy, I finally find the peace I thought I would never have. Ahhhhh….bless you.

  24. I well remember all the silly hype that happened as we entered the year 2000. So it will be on November 9-God is still who He is, the world will turn on its axis as God planned and we will still have the opportunity to live for Him before a lost and dying world till He comes.

  25. The angel of the house of God where I attend, told the flock from the beginning to remember the “God” you serve and remember He is in control and don’t concern yourself about this political saga. God is in control. Vote if you like, but God is in control

  26. Hold to God’s unchanging hand
    Hold to Hod’s unchanging hand…

Your words bring comfort and reminders to this turmoil we see swirling around us. Thank you Lord for this breathe of Life he speaks!
    God bless

  27. Thanks, Max! A great reminder. I, too, try to teach my sunday school kids that they can take everything to God; how soon, we as adults forget and need to be reminded. God is in control. We all need to trust Him more.

  28. Genesis 6:5-8 God regrets making mankind.
“Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. The LORD was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. The LORD said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, from man to animals to creeping things and to birds of the sky; for I am sorry that I have made them.” But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD.”
    ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭6:5-8‬ ‭NASB‬‬

Here we have the record of God’s great sadness at what man had done with free will, both a wonderful gift and a powerful weapon. I am thankful He has promised never again to destroy the world in such a fashion. However, severe times, Revelation Days, are ahead if the United States does not experience a resounding revival.

We must trust God’s goodness while heeding his many warnings.

  29. No matter what happens on Election Day, our God will still be “I am”, the Creator of the universe and the Master of all! Fear be gone, in the name of Jesus!

  30. Yes, but God himself is not on the ballot. He gave us brains to think for ourselves and hands to take action.

  31. So enlightening I am feeling relieved and my heart is much lighter as I pray for our country South Africa specially for the student protests going on in our universities! The Lord can and will bring good out of all the caos!!!

  32. After reading this, I immediately went to my calendar and wrote the words, “Our good God rules the world”. Thank you for your wise words.

  33. Thank you so much for the reminder that God knows exactly who is going to win this election and that He is in control. We need to stop worrying and start praying for God’s will to be done. Thanks again Pastor Lucado for reminding us of what we already knew!! Love your books. Our ladies group just finished your study, Come Thirsty. Awesome!!

  34. There were mostly some profound and encouraging truths to remember and hold onto. However, I do have a couple of questions regarding a couple of things you say in the prayer you think others should pray. I believe our words should always be based in truth, no matter how small it may seem, therefore:

“You are self-created. You exist because you choose to exist.” where does this come from?

“You are correct. In every way. In every choice. You regret no decision.” Was God not grieved when he created man and saw his sin and regretted he made him?

  35. Thank you Max. As always your words reached me just when I needed to see them. God is always amazing like that. God is on the throne and that’s all that matters. Much love and blessings as you continue to allow God to speak through you and your writings.

  36. We often get distracted, forgetting to focus on God’s peace and faithfulness. Thank you for this reminder.

  37. Max Lucado, how I needed to hear these words today after a fitful night of sleep with presidential candidates most prevalent on my mind. Each time I woke up, I resolved that I need to quit filling my mind with tales of the untrustworthiness of government officials, fear over the impending persecution of christians and those who hold Judeo-Christian values, the bickering among friends and allies, the.killing of babies, the downward spiral of morality, the underlying “religion” of our public school system and universities, the manipulation of our thinking by the media, the appeal to our most prurient interests in entertainment, and generally the godless forging ahead as we conduct the affairs of our nation. It is too much for me to bear. Oh, thanks be to God that he beckons me to lay my burdens down! Thank you for helping me to do that this morning, Max Lucado. This wayward sheep needs to draw close to The Good Shepherd!

  38. Thank you for saying exactly what he has been telling me . It is my confirmation at just the right time. Thank you for being brave enough to speak the truth.

  39. Right on time and always speaking what He tells you… thank you for sharing…. I needed the Word.

  40. I took heart at your words and placed my faith in Almighty God. You corrected the world’s lies I’d slipped into. Thank you for the Godly “attitude adjustment”! My heart is full of joy, peace and trust in the Almighty and His sovreign rule!

  41. A word from God’s singer (Ps. 33:20-22) and my prayer for for those whose identity in found in 1 Peter 2: 9-10
    We wait in hope for the LORD;
he is our help and our shield.
    In him our hearts rejoice,
for we trust in his holy name.
May your unfailing love be with us, LORD,
even as we put our hope in you.

The New International Version. (2011). (Ps 33:20–22). Grand Rapids, MI: Zondervan.

  42. Yes Max,

Every four years we want a Leader, President, Problem Solver with Real
Solutions; Good Example with High Moral Character that will Transform America.

We want a Real President, unconsciously, a good, effective, loyal to the constitution, a military leader with courage to protect & defend our country, a man Beyond ANY
Party, a non-or anti-political party president who Only & Whole Anerican. A person who only desire is to Be a Servant of the People.
No desire or Lust for Power or to use Public Officecto make money. One who would just be an ordinary citizen afterwards.

Well, there was only one GEORGE Washington.

The Jewish people thought they wanted a King to solve everything. God always gives people a choice and “Full, Complete Informed Consent”. They chose to put All Their Trust in a King & gave the King Unlimited Power. Disaster, Suffering, Poverty, Loss of Laws established by God to Protect People.

A President is just a human person with a title, like a Jing, who also is just a human person with emotions, ordinary human brain, potential both for good & for power, wealth & evil.

Forget a perfect human planned nation, world, Tower of Babel, no human ever designed a Perfect Pain, Disease, Hard Work Free Garden of Eden with a 100% Heakthy Never Aging Body, eating only Fruits with Peace, Happiness, Enjoyable Relationships, peaceful wild animals, and evening conversations with the designer of earth & human beings – an Actual Perfect Paradise.

Neither person seems honest, reflects the Way of Jesus & his faithful apostles, service before self, a record of working well with others to reach consensus in working & problem solving government, or is truthful & open about their personal finances and government service.

Could this election with no good choices be
a logical result ? Could it be God giving people of the world another good look at what we cause to happen if we ignore the Natural Moral Principles of self spiritual discipline & development of ourselves, our character, ways we do or do not show real love for other people of all nationalities, backgrounds; and respect for God ?

Didn’t both the people who were non-CHRISTIAN diests and the people who were Chrustians ; all agree that American System of Government would only work if we’re a Morale People who seek to individually Control & govern ourselves ?

Thanks again, Both for your non-political article months ago in Christianity Today & for this article.

  43. Thanks for the reminder of our God’s wonderful promise…..He will bring us peace even in the most chaotic of times!

  44. God truly used you to bring peace to all who read this…as long as they have ears to hear it. 🙂 My only additional comment is that I hope more believers will study end times prophecy and share with others that the return of the Lord is at hand. I’ve only ever heard solid messages about it while attending services at a Messianic synagogue. Jewish believers are on fire for God and work hard to reach others (both Jew and Gentile) with the message that the return of the Lord is so near. I’d love for every believer to have the DVD “Left Behind? What’s Next?” in their homes. That way, after we’re raptured, those who are still here will learn what’s ahead and have the opportunity to turn to the Lord for salvation. Let’s be ready! Come quickly, Lord Jesus!

  45. I can’t thank you enough for this reminder and for the challenge to be faithful not fearful. God is good…all the time!

  46. Oh so now I see you pulled a Pilot, washed your hands so to speak. Bad mouth Trump and still remain neutral. Trump is a sinner, and apologized. It’s OK that you don’t support or even like him, but we are also called to be wise in dealing with the world. God is still in control, but he gave brains for a reason. You can have 4 more years of the same or maybe take a chance on an imperfect man who at least says he wants to change direction. I would guess none of us can stand up to the scrutiny Trump has endured…

  47. We vote because we have freedom to do so, yet God already has it written in His “daily planner” as to the outcome of this great nation. Thank you, Max for giving us insight into the Scripture that focuses on the Matthew 6:10 … “Your will be done, on earth, as it is in Heaven.” God bless your ministry.

  48. While I agree with your post completely, I am concerned that some will see this as a call to non-action. Trusting God’s sovereignty is critical, however, so is his repeated call to strength and courage. Among a whole host of issues, this election will determine how many unborn children are murdered over the next several generations. I don’t long for November 9th, when it will be over and I can relax. I long for November 8th, when I can exercise my God given voice to stand up for the values instilled in me through His Word. But yes, regardless of the results, I will have peace on the 9th.

  49. Thank you, Max, for reminding us that God is in control. I am disappointed in our candidate selections, but I have decided that to not vote would be worse. Therefore, I will have to focus on party platforms & what they represent. Does anything in them go against the character of God? I am concerned about the impact of our Supreme Court vacancies to come. Not for me, but the impact on my child & our grandchildren. I will take your words of comfort, & I will pray before I mark that ballot. I will rest in knowing that God is in control anyway & remind myself of that everyday.

  50. Thank you, Max, for sharing your thoughts and thank you, God, for loving us and caring for us and giving us peace….but most of all, for Jesus who gave His life so that I can spend eternity with You in Heaven. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

  51. GOD IS…. He exists eternally and He loves us unconditionally. He is still on the throne and He will remain there. I put my trust in GOD.

  52. Thank you for these words of wisdom, and a prayer filled with simple truths and facts. So glad I was lead to this article this morning.

    1. Sharon,
Your comment is appreciated and we offer this clarification:
Of course Max believes in an eternal, non-created God. The phrase “self created” was intended to convey that no other power outside of his own causes God to exist, as “ever-existing. We apologize for the confusion. – Lucado Team

      1. Thank you for this clarification, as I also had a problem with this phraseology. Our eternal God, who is, and was, and is to come, isn’t self-created. I’m glad to see it addressed.

  53. Thank you for the reminder based on God’s Word. I have been in despair, forgetting that a God knew about this before it even began.

  54. Thankyou for this. Tho many in the world may not acknowledge Him… this is truly a reminder Who is our Commander in Chief and He does NOT live on Pennsylvania Ave!

  55. The same was true for the Jews when Hitler took over Germany. Yes, God is Always with us but if people who knew better had not decided to blindly follow a ruthless dictator, these atrocities could have been avoided. We face a leader taking over who is both ruthless And Ungodly! We’d better get in the trenches and fight until the end; Then we can say, we did All we could do. God did not hand over, “The land flowing with milk and honey, but occupied by giants…” to the Israelites. He instructed them to fight. They didn’t trust God to go with them and secure the battle for them and they wandered around in the wilderness for forty more years! I don’t want that for my children, grandchildren, or for myself! I’m not looking for comfort right now. I am looking for the hand of the Lord to drive out those who wish harm on our nation and the people of God!

  56. Thank you Max Lucado>>>again, your insight has calmed me and enlightened me. I am humbled and ashamed at the fact that I could so easily have forgotten “My God reigns”…..all glory to Him. Thank you Lord for your powerful reminders in this tumultuous time.

  57. Thank you! I know this and have even made similar comments to friends and family. But after the most recent “revelations” I began to get sucked in to the despair these two candidates cause. I so appreciate the reminder that God is in control and that he can make something good come from this mess!

  58. Thank you for the therapy session. I also may stay off facebook on Nov. 9, as there will be “weeping and gnashing of teeth” from one side or the other.

  59. In response to Pilate’s baiting words to Jesus, “Do You not know that I have power to crucify You, and power to release You?”

Jesus answered, ” You could have no power at all against Me unless it had been given you from above…….”

  60. Thank you for doing what you do best: giving spiritual lessons that glorify God. Unlike your earlier rant this election year where you tore Trump to pieces with a visceral, high and mighty hand. It was so unbecoming. I agreed with you, but would have never used my fame and influence to do what you did to a man who isn’t a believer. Did you not know then that God appoints and sets up rulers over kingdoms? He does. If we wait on him, giving him glory and honor, we can be assured that no matter the outcome, God is always in control. To him be the glory forever and ever. Amen.

  61. When you the Hebrews turned from God he let them suffer the consequences in order to save them.
I believe that if we continue to let the God-less prevert our founding values (turn from God), God will let us destroy our country.
Why not learn from history and work to hold to our values so future generations will not have to suffer.

  62. These are good reassuring words, but do they imply that The Holocaust where millions of Jews and children were killed were because of a lack of faith, also all of the millions of Christians beheaded by evil men who claimed to be doing it in Allahs. name were also justified? I have witnessed many miracles from God in my lifetime, but I am not naïve enough to think we Christians do not have a battle to fight with those who want to destroy us. All it takes for evil to triumph, is for good men to do nothing. Onward Christian soldiers, marching as to war, With the cross of Jesus, going on before. We are in a battle against evil right now, and need to take up our crosses and let our voices be heard and pray without ceasing. Our ver

    y lives depend upon it.

  63. Max, cannot believe you are taking a stand against Donald Trump. He is a new Christian that could use good wisely advice from you instead of condemnation. Have you even tried to reach out to him? His actions are more righteous than the other candidate. And we can see daily changes in him due to Christians praying for him daily. Those things are from 10 years ago. Just listened to one of your sermons that said if we knew your thoughts, you wouldn’t be allowed to preach. Can you not give Donald the same forgiveness? You doing this is helping the far left accomplish their goals of destroying Christian values. Yes, God is in control and always will be, but I don’t want the world to become even more evil because of my loose tongue. You have way too many people who look to you. I cannot look to you for spiritual instruction anymore if you at least don’t write another article about how you feel about Hillary and her evil ways. Look at Wiki links emails and still take this stand? It shows the true evilness of the other side that the main stream media ignore. We all need to be reminded, God used a repentive prostitute in the leaneage of Jesus. Zacheus is a great example of how people can change. If we put any of us under a microscope the way the main stream media has done with Donald, none of would survive. His choice of Mike Pence is about as powerful as it gets! I will trust Mike Pence and Robert Jeffries’ (those who know him closely) opinion over Donald any day other than the media. The mainstream media also hated Paul (a murderer). God often chooses who we least expect. If weighing the two options, I’ll choose the one that will continue to protect my Christian freedoms.

  64. This is the kind of soporific commentary that makes Christians sleep through the grim realities of climate change, persecution of other races, and the unthinkable insults to women made by a candidate for the presidency of our great nation. I love Jesus with all my heart, soul, and mind, but I have now come to call myself a disciple of Christ rather than a Christian.

  65. My husband and I were just stating those same thoughts last night! Then we stepped to acknowledge that our God IS in complete control, He CAN…..Thank you for sealing it with the Old and New Testament prayer!

  66. What a succinct reminder, as we, as a nation, face some of the most passionate decisions we have faced, in some time. God’s will be done, on earth, as it is in Heaven. Thank you Heavenly Father.

  67. Amazing what this message does for my soul! I feel such peace knowing that God is in control. Thank you so much for reminding us!

  68. We are God’s hands and feet in the world. He doesn’t snap his fingers and the hungry are fed – we must feed them. He doesn’t nod his head and heal the Earth. We must. This situation is a product of inaction. Prayer and hope do nothing without action. They are empty sentiments. They do nothing without action. I can pray till I’m blue in the face and if I do not love my neighbor, if I do not change a thing, if I don’t break out of the patterns that got me here – NOTHING CHANGES. I can sit safe in my home and “believe in God’s good sovereignty” and the world will burn around me. The future is only as bright as we choose to make it. We are all responsible for this. God is not too blame nor will he change a thing. It is up to us.

  69. I told someone recently that neither candidate is perfect and I’m choosing to vote for the one that I have the greatest amount of hope for; I have to believe that God has a plan in all this. They replied to me that they think we’re pretty much on our own in this. Whatever happens will be on us . . . not God. This person is married to a minister and I must say I was shocked at their response! Thank you for posting this message because it gives me affirmation that what I believe has merit.

  70. The world is watching how Christians treat a sinner like Donald Trump, and quite frankly, I’m embarrassed by some of what I see. After reading this article about sinners in the Bible, I’m reminded even more that any man is redeemable, even DJT. Whether he becomes president or not, his soul is important. (Yes, Hillary’s is as well, but the subject for today is DJT). Since Mike Pence and Ben Carson spend a great deal of time with him, I will take their word that DJT became a Christian in the past few months. Yes, the angels in heaven rejoiced when he gave his life to God while some of my brothers and sisters were spewing their vitriol against DJT. DJT’s past sins have been forgiven and he is now a brother-in-Christ. That means he is a milk-drinking believer with a lot to learn. I’m thankful that Mike Pence is walking alongside him instead of kicking him while he’s down like I see some in the Christian community doing. My eyes have been open as to why the Church has become irrelevant to society. Some in the church don’t give an ounce of time to the political process at any level of government. They aren’t very good stewards of government, and then when we have two presidential candidates who have a lot of baggage they suddenly become self-righteous and indignant to the very thing they’ve created by their willful neglect. God can and does use the weak things of the world to confound the wise. He uses broken people to serve His purposes. If those who support Judeo-Christian values choose to sit this election out or vote for an irrelevant third party candidate, because of their self-righteous indignation, they deserve what’s coming. The church will have earned its persecution.

  71. As Ruth Graham warned us, “If God does not judge America, he will have to resurrect Sodom and Gomorrah and apologize.” Now we are given the choice between two devils prepared by and for our sinful society. Trump will be God’s judgment on our sinful nation; Hillary will be God’s destruction of our sinful nation.

  72. Thanks for your comments. They are right on point and were the divinely inspired direction I needed to hear. I’ve read your books for years and greatly appreciate your wisdom and spiritual insight.

  73. I agree with all he says. I do think we must pray and then act on what we feel God is directing us to do and who to vote for. I read where Dr. Dobson said that Trump had prayed to receive Christ a few months ago. They did not want this out because they didn’t want people to ridicule him and say he just did it to get elected. Sure, he hasn’t learned there are some things that Christians don’t say. I hope people don’t stay home and not vote because they think God will take care of this if they do. Trump does say he believes in the issues that most Christians believe in, Hillary does not.
    Thank you.

  74. There must be opposition in all things! There must be choices to be made between good and evil…otherwise there is no free agency! The Jesus Christ asked His Father in Heaven in the Lord’s Prayer, “Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, in Earth as it is in Heaven!” His kingdom has been established on the Earth through the Restoration of the Church of Jesus Christ. He has called true Apostles and Prophets to receive his will thru revelation and inspiration to guide the affairs of His Church TODAY. So yes, “the earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof.” But Satan was cast out of Heaven into the earth along with a third of the hosts of heaven who followed him. They are present as spirit beings to fight against the Lamb of God, who is our Savior Jesus Christ. We choose sides by our thoughts and actions…do we follow and obey the Christ in righteousness repenting of our sins, or do we choose to succumb to the temptations of the Devil and those who support him…thus joining in the fight AGAINST good? We already know the end result: Christ will triumph, Satan will be bound for a season, and judgement will be passed according to our works and God’s laws. The Great Plan of Salvation was prepared before the Earth was created…with a probationary mortal existence, choices to make, leaders to follow, fruits to be produced, and promised rewards to be given according to the inventory in our baskets…we are required to choose sides! The only question remaining is WHICH SIDE DO YOU CHOOSE? Yes, EVERYONE has the God given right to choose–at times God does humble the proud, but they have the choice if they turn toward or away from Him. Thank you for your faith in God–the Gospel will be spread into all the world by the authorized servants of His Kingdom that has been established here according to prophecy given of the Prophet Daniel’s interpretation of King Nebuchadnezzar ‘ dream: “And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: …but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever. For as much as…the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it break in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.” Daniel 2:44-45 KJV
    Amen

  75. Thank you so much for your encouraging, yet challenging words about this difficult time in which we live. I love reading your daily devotionals because you always use the Bible to interpret itself, rather than someone’s opinion. I know that our future is in the Lord’s hands, yet trust that He’ll give our nation a second chance, for He says in His Word, “If my people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” 2 Chron. 7:14

  76. I was inspired to write this in response to the revelation of Donald Trumps recently released video. I want you to think how far we have come as a nation. Anderson Cooper a professed homosexual ,married to a man was one of the moderators at the presidential debate posed a question to a heterosexual Billionaire male about immorality. Who would have thunk it.

As a Pastor for the last 30 years I would like to offer a biblical perspective on the up coming presidential elections. This election hinges on two question? Does Donald Trumps moral failures disqualify him from being president vs. Hillary Clintons willingness to sell influence at the expense of our nation for her own personal gain.

King David considered one of the greatest Kings in the history of Israel failed morally. Although he suffered personally for his immorality he was still able to historically become one of the greatest kings who ever lived. He was referred to by God as “a man after Gods own heart” He led Israel to be one of the greatest powers on earth.

Under King David’s leadership Israel enjoyed.

    1) Prosperity

    2) Protection by a mighty military presence

    3) Great Peace from their enemies and religious freedom.

Contrastively there was another King by the name of Ahab. Ahab was one of the most wicked kings that ever lived . His wife’s name was Jezebel and she was more wicked then her husband Ahab. Jezebel lusted for power and wanted to be King herself. She bore false witness (lied) against Naboth and had him killed to give her husband King Ahab the vineyard he desired. She was known as one of the most wicked people in all of scripture.

Under Jezebel leadership Israel suffered great judgments .

    1) She brought foreigner in Israel who brought their false gods causing great apostasy and Idolatry (Muslims/Allah)

    2) She worshipped Baal and Molech which offered child sacrifice and worshipped the god of fertility. (Abortion)

    3) She brought religious persecution by killing Gods Prophets (persecution of the church)

    4) She brought great judgment on the nation of Israel. (great debt and meager wages)

The real question one must ask themselves before casting their vote is simply this, who would you rather have as president? Someone with moral flaws that still has a heart for God’s people and the concern of a nation? Or someone who is at the very core of their being wicked. Someone who has sold their influence at the expense of the nation. Compromised national security, wants to open the boarders to possible terrorist. That does not believe in the sanctity of life. That promotes homosexual marriage. Is there really a choice?
Pastor Jonas Robertson, Abundant Life Church, Harvey, Louisiana

  77. Thank you for these wonderful words! I have been a “nervous wreck”. All these days have been filled with tension, and now I feel so much better and I have already written your words where I can see them everyday! You are so right…God is still in control!

  78. Amen! This was really comforting and assuring to read! “Goodness”- one of the fruits of the Spirit is what I got when reading this. Matthew 7:16

  79. Max I know this is easier to do than some people me included.I try so hard but doubt gets in my way. And I know this is truth. Didn’t one of the apostles pray help me in my unbelief?

  80. I’m so glad I read this. You are, of course, right. God is in complete control. Period. This is fabulous!! Amen.

  81. Yes God is and will be in control Max no matter who becomes president. But I believe God will judge our nation by what we choose as a voting nation. Everyone knows Hillary is pro choice and everyone knows Trump is pro life . Do you think God chooses to turn a blind eye to the millions of abortions our nation has allowed? Yes God did send Jeremiah in the past but it was to warn unrepentant Isael of the judgement that was to come and the impending 70 years of Isael’s captivity. It’s our chose America. Do we choose life and God’s blessing and favor, or do we choose death and God’s judgement . “Righteousness exalts a nation”

  82. Thanks Max,

I needed to hear this. I copied the prayer for future use. I’ll need it especially if Hillary wins.

  83. Brilliantly written as always…thank you Max for putting pen to paper inspired by God. Comforting and well received.

  84. Thank you Mr Lucado for putting everything in perspective, for reminding us that OUR GOD Reins!!! And HE is the Only One Who Reins!!!!

  85. I THINK ALL THIS DOES IS GIVE CHRISTIANS AN EXCUSE
NOT TO VOTE….. OH, GOD WILL TAKE CARE OF EVERYTHING, WELL, GOD GIVES US FREEWILL TO CHOOSE
AND THAT IS WHAT HE EXPECTS OF US. I LOVE AMERICA
AND I CARE DEEPLY ABOUT THE FUTURE FOR MY CHILDREN. I THANK GOD FOR PASTORS LIKE DR ROBERT
JEFFRESS THAT ARENT AFRAID TO SPEAK THE TRUTH
    CONCERNING THE DEMISE OF AMERICA.61MILLION
BABIES HAVE BEEN DESTROYED, SO IT DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE ON WHOM YOU VOTE FOR….. PROLIFE WINS
    OR AMERICA LOSES.

  86. Even a cursory review of the Old Testament reveals that Israel’s Kings were either ordained in blessing or in judgment. Either way, it will be God’s doing, as it always is. My prayer and my hope is that God will grant us a reprieve from judgment, a brief respite so that we can reach out to a dark world with the light of the gospel and to bring about the true revival of 2 Chronicles 7:14. I am mindful that God remains sovereign over the affairs of men. I am also mindful that we will give account for the choices we make.

  87. The Eighth Commandment

Every four years in the USA we are exposed to a vivid example of the breaking of the
eighth commandment. This breaking of the commandment is aired across national
TV and on the radio air waves for all to watch and hear.

“You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.” – Ex 20:16

As I listen to this spectacle, I am reminded that we are not only to tell lies that can bring down our neighbors, we are not even supposed to speak badly about our neighbors even if it’s the truth. Speaking with an evil tongue not only breaks down friendships and damages trust but the fact is that these hurtful words can not be taken back.

Think of it this way, someone who steals can repent and give back, but with our
tongue, we can never take back or undo the damage that was done by what was
    spoken.

This is serious stuff! This is what Jesus says concerning gossip:
“You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth
speaks what the heart is full of.” – Matthew 12:34

Usually, pride is at the core of this gossip. People who gossip want to elevate themselves at the expense of others. Here’s what they should be doing:

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others
above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. – Philippians 2:3-4

If we act out of love, as Jesus teaches, we will build up our colleagues reputation and
in so doing, build up ours as well.

  88. God also said in his word that there would be wars, and rumors of war. I appreciate your reminder, however as Christians we should not have to be reminded as we live each day in this mixed up situation. We should not be the ones to pass judgment as there is only ONE who does that. Prayer right now and always is vitally important and it doesn.t have to be lenghthy. Each morning when I awake I say “Merciful Father, help us.” And I know HE understands.

  89. Jesus I Trust in YOU! Thank you for this great reminder that GOD is in control…I hope He can save our beautiful country from the corruption and strife!

  90. He might have thought of this BEFORE he ragged on Donald Trump. According to the scripture if you have a problem with anyone you take it to that person and that person alone.
Mr. Lucado you sir, are a hypocrite.

  91. I think you guys are all a little over the edge. God is in control? Where was God when Hitler took over Germany, when Pol Pot ruled Cambodia, when Idi Amin was in Uganda, when the Rwandan genocide was going on, during hurricane Katrina, during the earthquake in Haiti, to name just a few. Your view of the world is completely loopy. Show me one piece of scientific evidence that your God is in control or even exists. You poor delusional souls, I feel really sorry for you all!

    1. Sure an all-knowing, all powerful God has regrets. Even with his so-called meddling or control of the affairs on earth, he’s still screwing up! Don’t you see it’s all make-believe… Like Santa and the tooth fairy.

If God sent his son to die for the sin of Adam, then what are we still doing here? Jesus’ so-called perfect sacrifice was not so perfect after all. We still have to pay for the wages of sin which is death, and we are not restored to the Garden of Eden as we should be by now.

      You guys really scare me!

  92. I pray for Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump to make the most important decision they could ever make in this life. To obey the Gospel of Christ. That decision would have a huge impact on their leadership decisions and their influence on many that need to belong in God’s kingdom. Thanks Max Lucado for sharing your gift of reason and proper communication. Be blessed and stay blessed!

  93. This seems a bit simplistic. If it were true in the generalized way you’ve written this, it would make no difference how we vote. Or whether we even pray. God knows the end from the beginning, yes, but the in-between entails a lot of sowing and reaping that’s up to us. How that plays out is Sovereign only in the sense that He has given us freedom to choose. We are not puppets of God. But He will move when we ask. We have to vote platform not person. It’s all flawed, but there is a lesser of two evils…

  94. Oh boy. This is what I believe. I must be wishy washy though. The city of Sodom and Gomorra was destroyed by God because it was so rotten. So, along with many I pray for our country. Abraham prayed for Sodom and Gomorra …

The people of Israel asked God for a king. They were not happy with an almighty God. So, He gave them one. Historically that didn’t work out all that well.

So, first we need to go to the polls and as we go could we please focus not on our own understanding but on God’s?

  95. This is just what I needed. My heart has been so consumed by the worry and fear of this election. This helped remind me that our God is greater. My prayer for me is to let go and let Gods will be done. Because He is still in control.

  96. Thank you. You are the only christian voice of reason and absolute faith that whomever wins this election, God is in control of it all. THANK YO< THANK YOU.

  97. Amen, Pastor Max!! You just validated for me what I already knew and what my daily prayer is!
King of Kings, Lord of Lords, He is the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End, the Alpha and the Omega.

  98. Thank you, we all need to take a look at the King of kings and Lord of lords, so that we may endure in our faith. Trust in the Lord with all your heart.

  99. What a wonderful testimony of God’s sovereignty! I’m so grateful that God uses people to make Himself known! Thank you for reading and God Bless you! Violet 🙂

  100. If Max Lucado is promoting Hillary or saying it’s okay not to vote, then shame on him. We must take a stand against evil, and the Democratic platform promotes the continued downfall of morals and Biblical values. Is that what we want to let happen if we just stand idly by?

  101. Yes, by all means, let’s elect a lunatic and then rely on our invisible friend to keep him in line.

  102. Amen! Thank you dear Max Lucado! We all need to join Jeremiah and “call to mind” who the LORD of the Universe is. Thanks! 🙂 He reigns!! Hallelujah!
    Nancy

  103. God IS in control, but I don’t think He expects us just to sit back and do nothing either. I for one feel like turning some tables over in the temple ( or in this case…W.D.C.) Everyone’s heard the “lesser of two evils” or “the devil we don’t know” arguments. Which is worse? The way I’m trying to look at it is…we know the “end times” will come regardless and probably sooner than later. Something I DO look forward to. My question is…Which Presidential candidate will hasten it sooner and how will my conscious abide by EITHER choice?

  104. We are NOT ready for it to be over. This is the most important part. I had a feeling you would break your cover. We are called to be in the world therefore we MUST concern ourselves with the affairs of the world. JESUS left with the great commission (not with the great pray for it and hope it comes true).

  105. America has had bad presidents and gone through tough times before. This is nothing compared to the civil war era, the great depression, wwii, or even the 1960s. We’re these times punishments from God? If so, for what sins? Our job as believers is to love and be obedient. We should not try to speak for God. In November someone will be elected president. How will we respond if it’s not the one we want. Hopefully with grace and not anger and violence.

  106. Thank you for these fitting words. Once again you have blessed me with your perspective.

I have also received peace in these words of Isaiah 40:15. “Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are counted as the small dust of the balance: behold, he taketh up the isles as a very little thing.”

Also the words of Jesus: My kingdom is not of this world. The kingdom of God is righteousness, peace, and joy… (Not confusion, fighting, malice).

And of Paul: “No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.”

  107. Thanks, Max, I really needed these words. God bless you, my fellow Americans, and this nation we call home now, and give us the peace we need for the next 24 days 14hours 10mins.

  108. I’m sorry but I hate this kind of article. To be sure, God is in control- He will accomplish His purposes. But stop telling me “it will be ok”. My eternity is secure, but the here and now can get extremely unpleasant- that’s not what I want for my loved ones. The mother in the Warsaw Ghetto watching her children starve to death wasn’t thinking, “Hitler is the dictator, but it’s ok…” the man in a cage about to get burned to death by ISIS isn’t thinking, “…but it’s ok…”. No. Just stop. You have a funny definition of “ok” if you think that electing a president who will encourage the murder of millions of unborn children is ok. Now is not the time for predicting that everything will be fine- it might not be so fine- now is the time to pursue righteousness and pray- and everything else you can so- to see that our land stays free and safe.

  109. I could not agree more. I would add that the U.S. survived Nixon and Clinton as well as a host of others in history, so we could keep giving & sending missionaries, preaching the gospel and we will survive whoever “wins”

  110. Dear Mr. Lucado,

I completely agree with you. God is in control. Always.

I know you know that Jesus is coming again. I can only surmise that you are well aware that the great prophecies of His imminent return have been fulfilled or have all but been fulfilled. Jesus Himself explicitly warned His followers to be aware of the signs of His coming and, upon seeing them, to prepare. For most of us, this includes having a place ready to which we may flee. We are to preach of His soon return so that this message will be sent to the entire world, and then the End will come. In areas where it has not been possible for this to be done, angels have done so, and in more than a few cases, Jesus Himself has appeared in dreams to Muslims who have converted to Christianity as a result.

The Scriptures warn that Christians will be martyred before Jesus’ return. This has been occurring in brutal and barbaric ways around the world, all too often at the hands of Muslims. And our President has said very little in response, refraining from labeling it genocide, though the slaughter is in fact genocide. (https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/7046/christian-slaughter) These Christians died in faith that God is in control.

But the faith of Christians will be sorely tried. You’re right; our Christian faith should not be shaken by whoever wins the U.S. Presidential election. Neither should it be shaken if persecution comes to Christians here in this country. And it will come. It will be legislated by those in power, it will be enforced by those in power, but eventually the persecution will come from those believing they are doing God’s will, killing fellow believer who refuse to obey laws that attempt to force obedience to that which goes against their conscience. There are greater forces at play in our world than we can see with human eyes. And rulers may have already be set up which are slowly but surely bringing our human existence at last to the final conflict between good and evil.

I believe that evil forces are working hard to distract Christians in every manner possible, using entertainment, nationalism, politics, money worries, health problems, busyness with “religion” (2 Timothy 3:1-5 – this is about “believers” too), and our own personalized temptations, to constantly draw our minds away from trusting in Jesus AND studying His Word. It is this conjunction – trusting in Jesus AND studying His Word – that protects us from those distractions and prepares our minds for the terrible times already come upon our world. And, yes, Christians have heard “He is coming!” for over 2,000 years now. And, yes, terrible times have come upon the world multiple times before this. But never before have all of the prophecies concerning the time of His coming been fulfilled as they are now. I fear Christians have lost sight of this. I believe the time is past when we ought to be going about as if it’s business as usual.

  111. Thank you Max. I felt my insides relaxing as I read through your post and prayer.
Our Almighty, loving God is indeed all those things.
    I trust in Him
    To God be the Glory!!

  112. Thank you so much for this much needed reminder. God is in control, no matter what we choose. Your words helped me relax about our country’s future.

  113. I was woken three times out of a deep sleep and I am told to do this. It has taken me a week to gather the courage to listen.

I am asking you to join me Thursday, October 20, 2016 at 7:00 pm (your time zone) to stand outside your home or with a group of people where you can be heard, to sing Amazing Grace. And every Thursday between then and the election.

The Lord sent his people to march around Jericho for six days in silence while the priests blew their trumpets. And on the seventh day to march around the city 7 times and after the priests blew their horns the final time, the people were to yell their battle cry with all their might. They did this and the walls of Jericho came crashing down.

Americans we have stood silent and now it is time to sing with all our might to bring the walls of darkness down. To give our country to the Lord.

Amazing Grace is a song most everyone knows and loves. It is about God’s grace to all of us who fail daily. Let’s do this in the hope our Lord will soften the hearts of our government and nation. Let’s get people all over the country to stand together every Thursday at 7:00 pm (your own time zone). It would be great to hear others in our own cities joining us. If you don’t know how to make a difference in this election, this is a simple way to make a GREAT mpact. We sing and God does the rest!

Please LIKE and SHARE this with everyone one. Let’s get people from every state. Comment with the state you are from.

  114. Praise the Lord.
    We have our job.
    He has His will.
    It’s simple.

    No one can change that.
Thank you, Max, for calming my heart.
Thank you, Lord for giving Max the words.

  115. Your answer to the madness is a god that cannot or will not intervene in human affairs to stop evil? Your hope is in a god that let his own son be murdered rather than intervene? Why should I be comforted by that?

  116. You could say the same thing about the night before Kristallnacht. And the same thing about the day before Hitler was elected.

We each pair of the individual responsibility of voting for the right person, and not giving power to someone who doesn’t deserve it. If you throw up your hands and say “God will make everything turn out OK,” and stay home and don’t bother to vote… You are not upholding your responsibility as a citizen. Or as a good Christian. You are making yourself complicit in every future act the elected victor does.

All it takes for evil to win, is for a good man or woman to stand by and do nothing. On Election Day, idle hands really are the devil’s playthings.

  117. What comfort and truth reigns supreme in these words. I think in this extremely toxic times we all need to RECALIBRATE and go back to wat we know deep in our souls to be true, GOD IS, AND HAS ALWAS BEEN, AND WILL ALWAYS BE, IN CONTROL! This presidential election has unearthed something deep, perhaps hidden, and disturbing in even those of us who profess our love for God. “But let each man examine his/her own heart,” repent and turn back to God who is Love. Remember, Love is patient, kind, not brash or boastful…etc. and in the end, it is Love that Never Fails. Where ever there is no love, there is separation, and a house divided against itself is doomed to fail. So, I will breathe in deeply and exhale, and wait on the Lord to show Himself strong especially in this season. Thank You Pastor Lucado. I see light in the midst of this storm.

  118. There are NO surprises to our LORD. Your message Max is comforting and gives us something to think about.Thank you for your service to our Lord.

  119. I feel neither frustrated nor embarrassed! Rather, I am in awe of seeing a cleansing taking place. It is really happening!!!!! Glory be to God!
Numbers 32:23 declares, “behold, ye have sinned against the LORD: and be sure your sin will find you out.” I have been criticized as being “unloving” for having that attitude— Pfft! I Don’t Care!

For me, cruelty would be letting the liars continue on. This will put more responsibility on The Church, but we should have been living in the fear of God all along. If you don’t find wikileaks and all the other whistle-blowers as liberating as I do, then try looking through God’s eyes. When God looks at the heart of America, He sees a bruised reed. Washington, Hollywood, and the Fourth Estate are NOT the heart of America; they are the hooker exterior. The heart has been bruised, but God is not going to snap it off like a reed!

I rejoice that the hard encrusted exterior is being shattered by the Truth!

  120. Dear max,
I respect your opinion and writings almost as much as I trust Jesus. This has given me peace about this awful election thank you dear friend!

  121. I completely disagree with Max! Only fools bury their heads in the sand. It is time for Christians to take a stand… something Max is not interested in doing here. Give me a break about offensive language by a candidate. Who does Max think he’s preaching to??? Our congregations are filled with sinners and vulgar deplorables… but God saves souls and sometimes in history He has called up leaders despite their personalities. Wake up Christians… you only have three weeks to get over your Godly “elitism” and make the right decision for the future of our nation. Do we have a God-given sovereign nation here… or should we give in to an open-borders globalism? The choice is easy… wake up!

  122. I was wondering about something in your prayer about God being self created. I always believed that God is from everlasting to everlasting. Also you said God is here because He chooses or wants to be. It still makes me wonder about what you are saying because if He is from everlasting to everlasting, then how could he have created Himself or He exists because He wants to. I’m sure He wants to, but I don’t know that He created Himself because He wanted to exist. He always has and always will exist.

  123. This article is so amazing! This brings such peace to such a terrible situation. I am so thankful for what God does through you Max!

  124. I understand the sentiment written here, but the premise of God being in charge is totally crazy. God gave us the precious gift of free-will, it is to the detriment of our nation that people ignore the use of this gift for self-empowerment. People today do not strive to be formed in what will create virtue in themselves and those around them, to say ‘God is in control’ is absurd. Yes, He is in everything and sustains it, but the very fact that He supplies Love where we sow hatred, doesn’t mean He takes control. Let’s ponder anew the amount of Love it takes for God to watch all of us each day and let us stumble, so that we will hopefully recognize Him when we cry for the help He is so ready to give. “My peace I give you”

  125. Does God really cover for our intentional stupidity? Just think back on history. For example, Hitler was “voted” into power and look at the destruction that came from his days in power. God did not protect/save millions of Jews from Hitler’s ruthlessness.

  126. This beautifully illustrates exactly why religious people are religious. when faced with something beyond their control, they turn to some being that they believe must be in control. this brings them peace. and this, frankly, is the value of religion for the masses.

  127. To my knowledge, no Christian religion, Catholic, Anglican, Protestant, or Evangelical believes that God was self-created. Instead our Faith is based upon the concept that he is the Alpha and the Omega, he is the I AM, there was no one before him and he was not created. If created, only in the minds of man.

    1. Don,

Thank you for raising the issue of God as “self-created.” Others have questioned the wording that Max used, and we have posted this clarification at his request: “Of course Max believes in an eternal, non-created God. The phrase “self created” was intended to convey that no other power outside of his own causes God to exist, as “ever-existing. We apologize for the confusion.” – Lucado Team

  128. This is sooooo true Max, thanks for reminding us, prayer will overcome all because our God IS in control. Pray for the two of them.

  129. Yes. These are wonderful words. Yes God Is In Control. The thing is I don’t see anything about Trump. So if Trump Wins, truly He Is The Man. Those who do not accept Trump will have to answer To God. Why. Why have you not accepted My Chosen One. I Beleive God qualifies the Chosen. Not the Qualified gets Chosen.

  130. My prediction is if Clinton wins, deceived Christians that failed to vote for the pro-life candidate who will reverse the Johnson amendment will have blood on their hands.

  131. Dear Mr. Lucado, I am a sinner saved by Gods grace through Jesus Christ His Son. I agree that God is sovereign. He is in control. He loves us and He keeps His promises. I believe our prayers and petitions are powerful and He hears every single one of them. I believe every word in His book. I believe that if we as His people cry out to Him He will listen. You have penned many books on Gods grace. My children gave me your book ‘Grace Happens Here’ for Christmas last year. On pages 212 & 213 You ask the question “To whom does God offer His gift of Grace?” The answer you gave was “All of Gods Children.” I believe this too is true. Do You? As Christians we are to show Gods Grace to others so that they will see God in us. So that they will know or come to know Gods love, grace and forgiveness. As humans we look on the outward appearance of others passing judgments and forming opinions about others based on the way they look, how they talk, what they wear, who they associate with etc. God looks at the heart. Only God knows a mans heart. He forms no opinion, He patiently waits for us and then shows us great mercy and grace when we come to Him through His Son Jesus. Maybe its time as Christians we look at everyone through Gods eyes of Grace and pray for them instead of cutting them with our words. No matter the outcome of this election God will be in control and I pray that every Christian will pray for each candidate and for our nation and vote for the leaders that will uphold our constitution and our freedom of religion and to life. God established boarders. Its in His word. Gods Grace is what we all need to practice and not just talk about. God Bless America.

  132. I agree with everything you said except that God is self created. That is impossible and illogical. In order to create oneself one has to exist before one exist. He is self existing. He has always been and always will be. He has no beggining or end.

  133. Such irresponsible nonsense. God was in control in January of 1933 in Germany, too, when the German people elected Adolf Hitler president of their country. There were also German pastors at that time reassuring their people that God was in control, right up to the moment when the madman they elected was starting the war that would kill 60 million people.

Saying “God is in control, and so your political choices don’t matter” is a malicious lie, and anyone who spreads that lie is a naive and dangerous menace who should be shunned instead of respected. It’s too bad the people making the sugary-sweet comments on this page can’t see that more clearly.

  134. You are very respected, Mr. Lucado. That is why I was shocked to see you comment about Donald Trump which pushed some voters to the other side. If you do believe God is in control, why the previous blog? Do we want someone who believes in partial birth abortion and no borders? You have a lot of influence, nationally and I plead with you to think about the larger picture.

I recently read a Christian blog that compare the very flawed Sampson to Donald Trump. Yes, God used a man who loved the ladies and didn’t lead a very righteous life, to pull down the pedestals of power. I see that happening.. many parallels.

I’m not trying to be disrespectful, only trying to plead with you to see the larger picture.

  135. Glad to see you follow up with this. But I cannot forget how you have attempted to sway everyone against voting for Trump, and you are even featured in Hillary’s campaign ad? WOW. I hope you read this article: https://mariomurilloministries.wordpress.com/2016/10/20/i-wrote-about-max-and-beth-to-defend-christian-trump-supporters/
I have always thought highly of you and am an avid reader of your books. But no more. You and Beth Moore have lost my support. And I am sad about that.

  136. As a leader of God you should side with the person not in favor of abortion, tearing down the constitution, liberal judges, corruptness, death, supporting and paying for riots, globalisim, selling , corruption and out right evil. I am sure glad that the leaders of the bible took a stand against their self, God is in control but we have free will and common sense

  137. Just remember when the Isralelites screamed for a king God gave them one. And, I will not stand before God and have Him ask me why did i vote for someone who wants to kill babies.

  138. Thanks Max!

As always your message is simple and very clear: GOD IS IN CONTROL and CHRIST STILL SITS ON THE THRONE OF GRACE. As Christians, let us be HIS light in this very dark world. The good news is that CHRIST WILL come back soon. Let us rejoice in that!

  139. Amen Joy, I think this is a very cowardly way out of being a part of the decision that God has entrusted to us, I believe often he used the words “stiff necked” people don’t turn back to me. I think being passive is also being stiff-necked. God is sovereign and in control YES I totally believe that. That means to me that no matter what happens, He will use this to His and our good and the river will still flow in the direction of the will of God, but we do get to choose as well and we get to be a voice in this election… I feel that being passive is just as bad as being WRONG… I am willing to take the “heat” and make a choice and not sit at home doing nothing… We are his Hands and Feet….What is wrong with trying to put a Christian voice to this process? We are hearing of our brother being murdered, tortured and our relationship with Israel is not where it should be. I think the dividedness of this election is another chance to evil and for the devil to confuse us and make us feel like we would be better not voicing an un-popular opinion…. I am sorry Max, I think you’re sending a message that is partially true, not fully true

  140. A beautiful and much needed reminder, thank you! Yesterday I posted on my blog about how my optimism has been worn down by repeated exposure to things that degrade our faith in each other, and I suggested ways to take action to rebuild a resevoir of optimism – surround ourselves with positive people, take time to pray and read scripture and worship in community, and to choose to read and listen to media that encourages constructive action rather than destructive fear. Reading your blog is one of the actions I am taking to stay focused on faith rather than suspicion and despair.

Peace be with you, your staff, and all who read your words!

  141. Max, if there was anyone more nervous than you on that small plane it was me, the wife of that pilot! I flew many hours in that rickety 6place aircraft and never got used to it. Many hours around the USA, over the Caribbean down to Brasil, and over the Brasilian jungle, Rio, and more.

  142. Just as I was beginning to fret yet again about this election, I found this article! Just what I needed to hear! I am so thankful for your Godly advice, as always at just the right time! May the Lord continue to bless you and your ministry!
    Thank You!

  143. Yes, Election Day has arrived, and I truly Believe as proclaimed in ( Psalms 22:28 )… “The Kingdom is the Lord’s, and He rules over the nations”, and Divine Intervention has created the most unique Election campaign for our 45th President with these particular Two nominees……. Our Campaigns were in Poetry, but We must govern in Prose…….ONLY Donald J. Trump, notwithstanding numerous shortcomings, will be able to “Drain The Swamp”, which is clearly Our Nations dilemma evidenced by the overwhelming level of CORRUPTION & DECEIT that squarely rests inside the Beltway of Our Capitol, Washington D.C.

  144. I just posted this on my FB, prior to seeing your post. “I’m reminded that nothing ‘occurs’ to God. This day’s outcome is known to Him, He’s already at the end of this day, He IS in control, and all things work for good for those who love Him.”
I have to admit, I am still very disappointed at your public announcement of your preference of candidates. I pray God will remove that disappointment.

  145. It is hurtful to me that while God’s children are scared He is happy. When they hurting He is eternally joyful and content. These are the very things that made Mother Theresa question her faith in this God and I too, am now questioning if this is the kind of role model I want to follow. Trump may very well bring on nuclear war while my God remains happy, joyful, and content. This is breaking my heart to find out this is how He is.

  146. Well,I am a Christian living in Canada,Quebec that is. It’s where the Lord sent me after taking training for missions.I teach Sunday school in English,French, and try for a few words in Spanish, and Japanese, and Portugese. My Bible study, is me and two lovely black ladies. We are studing ,A Women after God’s own heart. I have three daughter’s against Trump, who happen to be athiest’s,and I love them, also four Americans in our church,Americans, from Georgia,Me from Chicago, another lady from New York, one from Pennsylvania,-non voted for Trump, and well I work speaking French in the daycare system, and in our multicultural church, not one person would have voted for him,and not one French canadian I spoke to in my workplace would. So too,I love Obama, and glad he was president. So now after reading Max Lucado’s stand,I’m more at peace as well as,the Bible, and said well my loving God is in control, still.Thank you Max,and all of the other wonderful comments. There are only point 3 percent Christians up here,so am glad for any encouragement .I have always enjoyed any books ,devotions, also written by Max Lucado,so great to read this article on God’s sovereignty, and working in ruler’s minds. So God said ok ,you want a king, voila Saul, and then came David.
